First Friday, June 3
Climate Change, Peak Oil, and the Meaning of Life
Anybody who’s paying attention knows that an unprecedented
constellation of forces are lining up on our collective horizon.
The laundry list is daunting: population growth, water scarcity,
escalating militarism, disease pandemics, oil shortages, economic
collapse, and climate change, to name the top contenders.

What is First Friday? |
It’s clear that powerful changes lie ahead, and the implications
aren’t easy to face. But the issues need to be considered
in community, so on First Friday a professor of economics at Lewis
and Clark College, Dr. Eban Goodstein, will join us to frame that
discussion. Eban has been writing and lecturing about climate change
and related scenarios since the 1990s and will facilitate dialogue
about the dangers, challenges, and the opportunities that may emerge.
First Fridays have been bringing people together to share food and
ideas every month since April 2002. Bring a vegetarian or vegan
dish to share and join us. The food is great, the conversation lively,
and the larger discussions always thoughtful, respectful, and stimulating.
Everyone is welcome. There is no charge, but donations are what
makes it all possible.
