What is First Friday?

When social activism addresses problems from the same level of awareness and understanding that created them, the actions are too often a mere series of bandaids—necessary to staunch the bleeding, perhaps, but painfully incapable of creating meaningful change.

Changing the circumstances and worldview that fuel the suffering is imperative, and yet in the immediate sense, bleeding must be stopped, damage interrupted, injustice lessened. So what is the relationship between shifts in consciousness and shifts in culture? How can we proceed with the greatest likelihood of being effective in our work to create a fundamentally different world than the one we live in today?

Bring a vegetarian potluck dish to share and join the discussion on December 2 at First Friday. The food is always great, the dinner conversation lively, and the topic discussions after the dishes are cleared away provide food for thought and possibilities for action. First Fridays are open to all; there is no charge but donations are appreciated.

You can help shape Living Earth!

Coalition work and peace organizing, workshops and book discussions, public presentations, and retreats are all part of Living Earth's programs. This year we are working to bring in fresh perspectives, ideas and skills that will help us further our mission and deepen the work we are doing for cultural change.
