Since First Fridays started in 2002, critical conditions facing the world have continued to decline on many fronts. The fragile underpinnings of democracy are threatened, militarism is spreading, eco/climate conditions are worsening ... the list could go on and on. In the context of critical issues, First Fridays invite us to explore our understanding of what it means to be human, to live together in community, and to cooperate in creating a just, peaceful, and sustainable world.

Sharif Abdullah of Commonway Institute will present points from his latest book, which will be available at First Friday. Sharif recently outlined the focus of the presentation and discussion in this way:

"We are living in unprecedented and turbulent times that challenge us to shift our perspectives in order to be of service to the greater whole. Our discussion on March 5, Seven Seeds for a New Society, will be an exploration of the critical issues facing us in the 21st century as we strive to create a world that works for all."

Seven Seeds for a New Society

Sharif's presentation will explore the following Seven Seeds:

  • SEED #1: The Offering: We need a new perspective on our challenges and a new vision of our future.
  • SEED #2: Seeing the Problem: We have created a toxic way of living on this planet.
  • SEED #3: The Solution: Humanity is evolving to a new way of being, for the purpose of saving ourselves, all beings, and the Earth.
  • SEED #4: Principles and Values: We must transform to a society based on universal spiritual/moral principles and values.
  • SEED #5: The Relational Operating System: Our current operating system is based on fear, adversarial relationships, exclusivity, scarcity and greed. We need a change.
  • SEED #6: The Relational Agents: We can end the current dysfunctional system by becoming conscious and behaving accordingly.
  • SEED #7: Next Steps for Humanity: We are co-creating a long-range vision of a world that works for all beings.
