What possible responses might our culture have to the rapid decline
of cheap fuel? Is this unprecedented circumstance likely to lead
to an epic collapse analogous to the collapse of previous civilizations?
If so, what steps can individuals and communities take to minimize
suffering, moderate the transition to ensure survival, and preserve
cultural achievements for future generations?
This day-long workshop with Richard Heinberg will provide an opportunity
to explore this issue in greater depth, including our own complex,
sometimes contradictory reactions to the subject.
The workshop will offer a look at what actions some towns and cities
are already taking to assess their vulnerabilities and plan now
for a future with less energy. We will consider eco-villages, permaculture
communities, and new models of dwelling, decision-making, and food
production that could be replicated widely. Finally, we will consider
what individuals, regions, and nations can do to develop and promote
an Oil Depletion Protocol.
