Internationally renowned earth-activist, Buddhist scholar, and author Joanna Macy will conduct a summer retreat with Living Earth at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Detroit, Oregon, from Sunday July 10 through Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2005. "The most remarkable feature of this historical moment," writes Joanna , "is not that we are on the way to destroying our world--we've actually been on the way for quite a while. It is that we are starting to wake up, as from a millennia-long sleep, to a whole new relationship to our world, ourselves, and each other. This is the great and necessary adventure of our time." Our week together is to help us understand this adventure, and recognize our own distinctive roles in the healing of our world. Drawing on spiritual teachings, we will face the grief we carry in these tough times, and see it as living proof of our mutual belonging, and an integral part of humanity's awakening. Drawing on systems theory, we will see how self-organizing
systems use adversity to Bring an honest heart, and be ready to fall in love again with life.
