Living Earth's Board of Directors

Betsy Toll |
Betsy Toll, Founding Director. Betsy’s activism
began in high school during Vietnam War protests and shifted to
environmental and anti-nuclear issues in the 1970s. She served on
the Los Angeles steering committee of the Citizens Party in the
late ‘70s, and worked with Seva Foundation in the 1980s. She
has a professional background in theatre and film, as well as peace
and environmental activism.
Betsy started Living Earth as a model for grounding activism in
spiritual principles that address the common roots of cultural dysfunction
relative to economic justice, social justice, environmental defense
and sustainability, and peace. An index of
essays by Betsy can be found here.

Judy Todd |
Judy Todd has been in the field of education and
ongoing learning for over 30 years and now works with two consulting
companies:
• InnerAction Tools for Change, an Oregon company specializing
in leadership, communication and team development; and
• Dede Henley & Associates, a Washington leadership consulting firm
with a special focus in developing women leaders.
Living Earth's commitment to
developing personal and cultural awareness and change through education
and activism is a thread that winds it way through her work as well.
Judy brings her experience with a variety of business, educational
and volunteer organizations to her work on Living Earth's board.
Judy holds a Bachelor of Arts, is an ordained minister and the founder
and Scout for NatureConnect Excursions, retreats in nature where
people re-discover and re-connect with the mystery and majesty of
the earth as a source of inspiration and spiritual renewal.

Judy Beck |
Judy Beck is a retired Professor of Religious
Studies/Women's Studies, and has been involved in the issues of
social justice, peace, and the preservation of all creatures' life
on this precious planet throughout her professional career and active
retirement. Judy and her partner, Dik Posey, were attracted to Portland
because of this city's outstanding political conversation and many
opportunities to live “green”. Portland's public transportation
system enables them to live lightly, without a car. In addition
to her work on the Living Earth Board, Judy is the OR District 1
Coordinator for NETWORK, a Washington DC-based Social Justice lobby
organization.
Bev Stadick grew up in the Columbia River Gorge
and deeply impacted by the beauty of the oak trees, orchards, rocks,
Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams, the wind and the Gorge itself. Nature's
gifts continue to offer healing and sustenance with yearly backpack
trips. A mother of two, Bev has been a supporter of Portland Public
Schools and has chaperoned and organized fieldtrips, served on hiring
committees, assisted in classrooms, and organized fundraising events.
She began volunteering for Living Earth in 2003 and has attended
events and workshops, where she's enjoyed the thoughtful caring
community and the insights that are shared during discussions.

Bill Scheider |
Bill Scheider, a Living Earth founding board member,
has worked as a human services provider in both the private and
nonprofit sector. Currently, he's self-employed as an organic gardener
and a web designer.
In Living Earth, Bill finds a group that provides forums for alternative
visions to the destructive systems that continue to add to the devastation
of the planet while embracing or creating communities of people
that share a sense of immediacy in our need for openhearted, life-affirming
solutions to the problems of the world.
