Explore the Bull Run Watershed
Join us to hike and tour the old-growth forest of the Bull Run Watershed.
Naturally pure water flows into Portland's water system from the pristine protected Bull Run watershed on the west side of the Cascade Mountains. Generations of citizens have fought tirelessly since the 1880s to keep Bull Run protected.
From its breathtaking old growth forests, Bull Run provides some of the world's purest drinking water to 800,000 people in the Portland area. To ensure that the water is clean and uncontaminated, for more than 100 years, human entry and activity in the watershed is tightly restricted. Living Earth has scheduled a wonderful opportunity this summer to tour the water system and hike in the old-growth Bull Run forests.
Bull Run Lake
The tour includes stops to hike in the woods (two or three easy hikes less than 2-mile, minimal gain), and also educational exposure to the structure of our water system and the challenges facing our watershed.
Space is limited, so register now. We will take a bus from Portland with representatives of the Portland Water Bureau, who manages the system. Bring a picnic lunch and appropriate hiking shoes or boots, drinking water, and appropriate layers depending on weather. Further details will be sent upon registration.
Registration covers all fees.
