Joanna Macy’s groundbreaking work on despair and empowerment have been transforming people’s perspectives and providing fertile fields of hope, possibility, and action for thirty years.

The crises and dangers threatening the world in the coming decade require radically fresh perspectives if we are to avoid sinking into hopelessness and despair. Yet opening ourselves up to the scope of these unprecedented challenges—climate change, aggressive global militarism, totalitarian ideologies, disease pandemics, water shortage—can too easily lead to either numbed hopelessness, anger or cynicism, responses that only deepen the spiral of distress.

Joanna’s talk will offer us the opportunity to embrace the world as it is unfolding and bring renewed love, creativity, and vision to our actions for peace and change. An internationally recognized systems theorist and Buddhist scholar, Joanna is author of ten books including her memoir, “Widening Circles,” “Coming Home to Life,” and “World as Lover, World as Self.” She is offering this evening talk to benefit Living Earth.
